About us

Everything vintage clothing. Nothing unrelated.

We built VintageClothing.com.au because "vintage" had stopped meaning anything specific. We're Australia's dedicated home for genuine vintage clothing, trusted sellers, stores and markets — and for the honesty that's often missing from the word itself.

Why we started

The gap between "old-looking" and genuinely old

Broad second-hand directories cover op shops, antiques, furniture and books — vintage clothing is just one small corner of a much bigger listing. Meanwhile, general marketplaces let almost anything old-looking get labelled "vintage," with no shared standard for what that actually means.

We picked one category and went deep on it. No antiques, no furniture, no unrelated second-hand goods — just vintage clothing, done properly, for the whole country.

Our trust system

A clear line between genuine vintage, retro and pre-loved

Every listing on our site carries one of three classifications, so you know exactly what you're buying before you buy it.

Genuine Vintage

At least 20 years old

Manufactured 2006 or earlier, the same threshold Etsy uses for its vintage category. Sellers may be asked to show evidence of an item's age.

Retro / Vintage Inspired

New, styled old

Recently made clothing designed to reproduce the look of an earlier decade — a great option when fit matters more than provenance.

Pre-Loved

Second-hand, not vintage-aged

Good quality used clothing that doesn't meet the 20-year threshold, but is honestly described rather than overstated.

What we stand for

Our commitments

01

Accuracy over hype

Estimated decades, honest condition grading and real measurements — not vague marketing language.

02

Australian-first

Every business we list is a verified Australian seller, store or market — no overseas drop-shipping.

03

Sellers we'd shop from

We start with professional vintage businesses and established sellers, so stock and photography stay high quality.

04

Education first

Our guides exist so you can spot genuine vintage yourself, not just take a seller's word for it.

Where we're headed

Our roadmap

Stage One — Now

Directory, product discovery & on-site enquiries

Business profiles, the store directory, markets and events, our identification & care guides, and full product listings — buyers enquire to buy directly on our site, and we pass the message straight to the seller.

Stage Two — Next

Full seller catalogues

Sellers upload or import their entire product range, with richer profiles, reviews and messaging — all still happening on VintageClothing.com.au.

Stage Three — Later

Full marketplace

On-site checkout and seller payouts, so a purchase can be completed start to finish without leaving the site.
